About Lake Wallenpaupack.
Welcome to the Lake Wallenpaupack region! One of the fastest growing areas of Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Lake Wallenpaupack was built by Pennsylvania Power & Light Company (PPL) in 1926 for the purpose of hydroelectric power generation. The lake they created covers 5700 acres, has 52 miles of shoreline and is over 13 miles long. There are also about 2 miles of navagatilble river at the southern end of the lake. The lake has 4 islands to explore and picnic on.
PP&L also created 6 recreational areas including the Shuman Point Natural Area, the campgrounds at Caffrey, Wilsonville, Ironwood Point and Ledgedale and the Fish & Boat Commission boat launch at Mangon Cove.
All the wonderful natural areas and features of the lake are just a part of what this area has to offer. Throughout the Lake Wallenpaupack region are thousands of acres of Pennsylvania State Game Lands, exciting Ski areas, Trails and more.
